HPC Fire Pit Parts FAQs
-
What accessories do you need for a fire pit?
For a high-performance gas fire pit, the essentials focus on connectivity, safety, and aesthetics rather than log maintenance. You will need gas flex lines to ensure a secure connection to your fuel source and proper vents installed in the enclosure to allow for necessary airflow and moisture control. To finish the look, lava rock or fire glass is used to cover the burner, providing a beautiful flame pattern and a fresh, modern aesthetic.

What is best to put in the bottom of a fire pit?
Unlike wood pits that use sand or gravel, gas fire pits are designed to be hollow inside to maximize airflow and house internal components. The "floor" of the firing area is actually a burner pan mounted just below the top of the enclosure. This pan supports the burner and your decorative media (like fire glass), while ensuring that the gas remains concentrated at the surface for an efficient, clean burn.

Should a fire pit have a hole in the bottom?
Yes, but for specific technical reasons. A gas fire pit enclosure must have drainage holes to prevent rainwater from pooling inside, which could damage the gas valves or ignition components. Furthermore, the structure requires ventilation openings to prevent heat buildup and ensure that any accidental gas seepage can escape safely rather than collecting inside the hollow base.
